This event was organized to commemorate the friendly cooperative relationship established in 1998 between Namyangju City and Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, and to celebrate the reopening of the Mongol Culture Village, which had suspended operations for six years due to facility aging and COVID-19, through the first phase of its redevelopment project.
The opening ceremony was attended by Mayor Joo Gwang-deok of Namyangju City, Suhe Suhbold, the Mongolian Ambassador to Korea, Ahn Kyung-mo, Honorary Consul of Mongolia for Gangwon and Northern Gyeonggi, heads of institutions and social organizations, and invited guests.
The event proceeded in the following order: △ Opening performance by the Namyangju City Symphony Orchestra and popera △ Signing ceremony of a business agreement △ Performance by the Mongolian children’s choir △ Performance by Mongolian traditional instrument and dance troupe △ Unveiling of the nameplate △ Tour of the event venue.
In particular, Namyangju City and the Honorary Consulate of Mongolia for Gangwon and Northern Gyeonggi signed a business agreement to establish a foundation for the Mongol Culture Village to coexist with Mongolians residing in Korea and to become a platform for cultural exchange.
Mayor Joo Gwang-deok stated, “Nomadic Dream Hall is an important achievement of the first phase of the Mongol Culture Village redevelopment project. The existing performance hall has been newly renovated and opened to provide more opportunities for local residents to enjoy culture and arts. Through this opening, I hope the Mongol Culture Village will develop into a representative tourist destination not only in Namyangju City but throughout South Korea.”
‘Nomadic Dream Hall’ was selected through a public contest and combines the word ‘Nomadic,’ meaning Mongolian nomads, with ‘Dream,’ representing the dreams of the citizens.
The city plans to proceed sequentially with the redevelopment project of the Mongol Culture Village, starting with the first phase of remodeling the performance hall, followed by the second phase in 2025 to establish a glamping caf? and media experience center, and the third phase in 2026 to build a healing walking center.
