DL E&C Develops 'Interfloor Noise Level 1 Grade Floor Structure' Ready for Immediate Commercialization

Achieved First Grade in Lightweight and Heavyweight Categories at LH Quality Testing Accreditation Center Evaluation
Developed Commercially Viable Products by Integrating Technologies Such as Noise, Structure, and Materials

DL E&C announced on the 28th that it has developed a 'Grade 1 Interfloor Noise Floor Structure' that meets enhanced legal standards and can be immediately commercialized.

DL E&C succeeded in developing a commercializable Grade 1 floor structure by integrating technologies from various fields such as noise, structure, materials, and acoustics. Previously developed Grade 1 products were difficult to implement on actual sites due to construction issues and high costs.

DL E&C improved its Grade 2 floor structure, ‘D-Silent Floor,’ which was created by consolidating 12 patented technologies, to complete the Grade 1 technology. They designed and applied finishing mortar and cushioning materials that disperse impact and minimize noise and vibration without impairing walking comfort and usability. To quickly disperse residual vibrations transmitted to the slab, vibration isolation pads were placed between the base mortar and the slab, significantly enhancing noise blocking performance.

Existing Grade 1 products faced commercialization difficulties due to the application of multilayer cushioning materials using various composite materials. The procurement process of multiple materials increased costs, and defects occurred during the complex cushioning material construction process. DL E&C simplified the structure by composing high-performance composite materials with excellent noise blocking efficiency, reducing the construction process. By streamlining the material procurement channel, they secured reasonable costs while creating conditions for large-scale construction with uniform quality.

The floor structure developed by DL E&C this time obtained Grade 1 (lightweight and heavyweight) certification in the floor impact sound performance evaluation conducted by the LH Quality Testing Accreditation Center, an institution designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Grade 1 certification is awarded when both heavyweight and lightweight impact noise transmitted to the lower floor are 37 dB (decibels) or below. The performance improved from the noise level of a typical home air conditioner (38?40 dB) to the noise level of a library (around 35 dB).

DL E&C began researching interfloor noise in 1980 by establishing the first technology research institute among domestic construction companies and set up the largest floor impact sound research facility in Korea in 2006. In 2010, it secured the highest performance heavyweight Grade 1 structure in the country at its standard testing laboratory. After applying the first high-performance cushioning material related to interfloor noise in 2016, it also became the first in the industry to obtain on-site recognized Grade 2 floor structure certification in 2021. Following the affordable product ‘D-Silent Floor Eco’ (lightweight Grade 1, heavyweight Grade 3) and the high-performance product ‘D-Silent Floor’ (lightweight Grade 1, heavyweight Grade 2), DL E&C has now secured this Grade 1 product. DL E&C is the only construction company to have secured all Grade 1 to 3 interfloor noise certified structures based on on-site recognition evaluation standards.

Professor Han Chan-hoon of the Department of Architectural Engineering at Chungbuk National University, an expert in architectural acoustics and interfloor noise, said, "The Grade 1 floor structure developed by DL E&C will demonstrate stable interfloor noise reduction performance even in large-scale construction sites through differentiated technology," adding, "It is expected to greatly contribute to improving residents’ living environments in terms of reducing interfloor noise."

Park Sang-shin, CEO of DL E&C, stated, "The technology developed this time is significant as it overcomes existing limitations and is the only Grade 1 floor structure in Korea that can be immediately commercialized," and explained, "As the only construction company to have all Grade 1 to 3 interfloor noise certified structures, we will strive to supply customized interfloor noise technologies according to the conditions of project sites and clients."
