Seoul Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 28th that it will launch the garden volunteer project "Gangdong Beautiful Garden Keepers" ("Gangdong A.Jung.I"), where residents directly cultivate gardens in the area. Based on the pilot operation results of the "Gangdong A.Jung.I" project this year, the district plans to fully implement it starting next year.

Previously, the district has been creating gardens at 12 locations in the area in line with Seoul City's "Garden City, Seoul" policy. Along with this, to promote a sustainable garden culture, the district is pushing forward the garden volunteer project "Gangdong A.Jung.I," where residents participate and manage the gardens themselves.

This year, the district selected Gangdong Healing Garden and Riverside Charming Garden as pilot sites and is recruiting five volunteers to participate in "Gangdong A.Jung.I." Eligible participants are residents or people living in Gangdong-gu who are interested in gardening. Selected volunteers will receive preliminary training and carry out garden management activities such as planting flowers and watering in their assigned gardens.

Based on this year's pilot operation results, the district plans to recruit 100 garden volunteers next year and expand the program in earnest. It is expected to be a great opportunity for residents who have been interested in garden activities.

Lee Hyun-sam, head of the Green City Division of Gangdong-gu, said, "As garden activities are gaining attention as a solution to improve stress levels, we expect that maintaining the beauty of Gangdong-gu’s gardens will also benefit the health of our residents." He added, "Through the Gangdong A.Jung.I project, we hope to establish a garden culture rooted in the local community and efficiently operate the main project next year based on the results of this year’s pilot."
