This week, the domestic stock market is expected to show volatility as major events such as domestic and international economic indicators and earnings announcements are concentrated.
The three major indices of the U.S. New York stock market closed mixed on the 24th (local time). On that day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average, centered on blue-chip stocks, closed at 42,374.36, down 140.59 points (0.33%) from the previous trading day. The S&P 500, focused on large-cap stocks, rose 12.44 points (0.21%) to 5,809.86, and the Nasdaq, centered on technology stocks, gained 138.83 points (0.76%) to close at 18,415.49.
Kim Seok-hwan, a researcher at Mirae Asset Securities, explained, "Although the U.S. stock market showed mixed results, the Nasdaq, led by technology stocks, rose sharply and led the market. This was mainly due to the strength of large tech stocks like Tesla and Nvidia, with Tesla's stock price rising 3.34% and Nvidia increasing by 0.8%."
This week, major events are expected, including ▲U.S. October employment and Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) ▲Korea's October exports ▲China's October Manufacturing PMI ▲earnings of the Magnificent 7 (M7) including Apple ▲earnings of domestic companies such as Samsung Electronics.
Han Ji-young, a researcher at Kiwoom Securities, analyzed, "With major domestic and international events such as domestic corporate earnings concentrated, the market is expected to show volatility. The fact that major domestic and international companies' earnings are clustered in the latter half of the week will also act as a factor making midweek market response difficult."
There is also advice to respond with buying in case of further declines. Jung Da-woon, a researcher at LS Securities, said, "Since October, the KOSPI has fluctuated within a very narrow box range (mid-2500s to mid-2600s), with a price-to-book ratio (PBR) around 0.9. Although the 0.9 level itself is ambiguous, given the various volatility factors ahead, I recommend buying on further declines."
