Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it has completed the construction of the 'Nohae Youth Sports Facility' to allow teenagers to enjoy healthy physical activities with peace of mind and is set to open it.
First, the X Games venue with an area of 2,000㎡, the first of its kind in the northeastern region of Seoul (hereinafter 'Nowon X-TOP'), stands out.
Nowon X-TOP is divided into sections to accommodate three genres including street, transition, and bowl, and is uniquely installed with concrete structures nationwide to ensure safety.
From the design stage, users' safety and skill levels were considered, and it is expected to become a landmark attracting extreme sports enthusiasts not only from the northeastern region but across the country.
The main components of the Nohae Youth Sports Facility project, besides Nowon X-TOP, include ▲ three basketball courts ▲ two futsal courts ▲ two multipurpose courts suitable for jokgu and badminton ▲ and a youth hangout, a youth play culture facility.
This is why it is expected to develop into a “Youth Land” where teenagers, exhausted from studies and with no time to catch their breath, can comprehensively enjoy leisure activities through sports, rest, and culture.
The district will strive to ensure that this place becomes a true youth space by showing consideration for teenagers not only in expanding facilities but also in operation.
The opening hours of the sports facilities will be from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Nowon X-TOP opens at 9 a.m.), and youth-only hours will be designated for basketball and futsal courts, which are frequently used by children and teenagers.
Accordingly, from 2 p.m., which is suitable for after-school use, priority and concentrated usage opportunities are secured for children and teenagers.
During youth-only hours, one court each of the futsal and basketball courts will be designated for children and elementary students, while one futsal court and two basketball courts will be for teenagers. This is the result of gathering residents’ opinions to prevent safety accidents and to allow teenagers of various age groups to use the facilities without conflict.
The eighth 'Youth Hangout' operated by the district will also open here along with the sports facilities. The Youth Hangout supports various activities including an ▲ e-sports zone ▲ healthcare zone equipped with a body composition analyzer ▲ photo and music studios ▲ dance room, and also provides snacks and a comfortable resting area. The Green Tree Foundation is entrusted with its operation to lead healthy play and rest culture for teenagers.
Nowon X-TOP will undergo a pilot autonomous usage period until the end of this year, and next year, it plans to expand the base of X Games through a professional company. The plan is to widely promote the charm of X Games by holding regular lessons, experiential learning programs, various events, competitions, and festivals to ensure user safety and activate X Games as a community sport.
In addition to the youth sports facilities opening this time, Nohae Sports Park has promoted a living park regeneration project including ▲ a 650m circular walking trail ▲ a pet rest area ▲ an integrated playground where children with and without disabilities can play together. The opening ceremony marking the completion of the Nohae Sports Park regeneration project, including the youth sports facilities, will be held at 2 p.m. on November 23. According to district officials, about 800 local residents including teenagers will attend, and side events showcasing healthy physical activities of youth such as basketball tournaments, X Games competitions, and random play dance will also be prepared.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Research shows that expanding opportunities for play and leisure activities is an important factor in increasing the happiness of children and teenagers,” adding, “We will strive to transform Nowon, a youth education special zone, into a youth special zone leading health, leisure, and play culture.”
