The first hydrogen vehicle carrier truck in Korea will be deployed at industrial sites.

On the 28th, the Ministry of Environment announced that it held a delivery ceremony for the hydrogen vehicle carrier truck at the Hydrogen Transportation Complex Base in Pyeongtaek Port, Gyeonggi Province.

The manufacturer of the hydrogen vehicle carrier truck is Hyundai Motor Company. Production began in January this year, and certification procedures were completed this month. It can carry up to six vehicles simultaneously and has superior power performance compared to diesel vehicles of the same class. With a single hydrogen charge, it can travel up to 380 km.

The manufactured vehicle was acquired by Hyundai Glovis and will be used for transporting export vehicles. It is scheduled to be pilot-operated on a round-trip route of about 40 km between the Asan plant and Pyeongtaek Port. Hyundai Glovis will collect vehicle operation data for six months to analyze cost and environmental improvement effects. Subsequently, they plan to gradually convert 1,132 internal combustion engine vehicles to hydrogen vehicles.

Oh Il-young, Director of Air Quality Policy at the Ministry of Environment, stated, “Converting vehicle carrier trucks that travel long distances to hydrogen vehicles will have significant environmental benefits, such as reducing fine dust and air pollutants,” and emphasized, “To promote the distribution of hydrogen vehicle carrier trucks, we will actively support not only vehicle production but also charging infrastructure.”
