Daughter-in-law Seo Hyo-rim Embraces the Coffin and Weeps Bitterly
National actress the late Kim Sumi (real name Kim Youngok) has entered eternal rest.
On the 27th at 11 a.m., the bereaved family held Kim Sumi's funeral procession at the funeral hall of Hanyang University Hospital in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Close acquaintances and fellow entertainers of the deceased attended the procession. Broadcasters Jung Joonha, Yoon Jungsoo, and Jang Dongmin, who usually called her 'Mom' and 'Mother' and had a mother-child relationship with her, along with actress Kim Naun, PD Moon Taeju who directed the variety show "Sumine Banchan" in which the deceased regularly appeared, and actress Lee Sook who acted with her in the drama "Jeonwon Ilgi" also attended.

After holding a Christian service for the deceased, who was a Christian, the bereaved family, along with Jung Joonha, Yoon Jungsoo, Jang Dongmin, and PD Moon, carried the coffin to the vehicle that would take it to the burial site. As the coffin was revealed, the family and acquaintances began to sigh and weep.
Her husband, Jung Changgyu, was supported by family members as he bid farewell to his wife, and her son, Jung Myungho, director of Napalkkot F&B, followed the funeral procedures with a sorrowful expression. Actress Seo Hyerim, the wife of Director Jung and the deceased’s daughter-in-law, could not stop crying throughout the funeral procession. She, who usually called her mother-in-law 'Mom' and was close to her, embraced the coffin being loaded onto the hearse and sobbed, saying, "Mom, I'm sorry." She also cried out, "Mom, don't go," and "How could you leave after all the hardships?"

The portrait held by the bereaved family was a photo used in the poster of the movie "I Love You" (2011), in which the deceased appeared. In the photo, Kim Sumi was smiling brightly as usual. After being seen off by acquaintances, colleagues, and fans gathered in front of the funeral hall, she was taken to her final resting place at Honestone Park in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.
Kim Sumi debuted in 1971 as part of MBC’s 3rd public recruitment of talents. With her exotic and distinctive beauty and outstanding acting skills, she was active across dramas, movies, and variety shows, earning great love from the public.
In particular, in the longest-running rural drama in Korea, "Jeonwon Ilgi," which aired from 1980 to 2002, she excellently portrayed the grandmother character 'Ilyong Eomni' despite being in her 30s at the time the show began, earning her the title of 'National Mom.' She was also famous for her excellent cooking skills, having written numerous cookbooks and actively participating in cooking-related programs.
On the morning of the 25th, she was found in cardiac arrest at her home and was taken to the hospital but passed away at the age of 75. The bereaved family revealed that the cause of death was hyperglycemic shock.
