Carbon Neutrality Forum Held at Handong University Hyoam Annex on the 25th
Presenting a Future Blueprint Aligned with 2050 Carbon Neutrality Policy
On the 25th, Pohang City held a Carbon Neutrality Forum at Handong University Hyoam Annex, co-hosted by the Pohang City Carbon Neutrality Support Center and the Pohang City Sustainable Development Council.
The forum was held with about 100 participants including citizens, organizations, and public officials under the theme "Carbon Neutrality (ESG), Its Meaning and Associated Challenges" to discuss the process of realizing sustainable carbon neutrality.
Professor Kim Seongsu of Kyungpook National University gave a presentation titled "Pohang City's Supply Chain and Energy Industry Management Strategy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality," suggesting the adoption of eco-friendly technologies and innovative management methods to establish Pohang as a leading city in achieving carbon neutrality.
Following this, Professor Jin Sanghyun of Kyungpook National University presented opinions on the policy implementation methods in line with the national response to Pohang City's 2050 carbon neutrality policy, which received positive responses from the audience.
Lastly, Choi Jiwon, Secretary-General of the Climate Change Center, led a session titled "Problems and Solutions in Practicing Carbon Neutrality in Daily Life," addressing practical methods and related difficulties, which resonated deeply with the citizens.
In the panel discussion, chaired by Professor Kim Seongsu of Kyungpook National University, participants included Kwon Kyungok, representative of the Pohang City Sustainable Development Council; Lee Seongjae, associate researcher at the Korea Energy Economics Institute; Kim Taehyun, head of the Supply Chain ESG Support Center at Pohang Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Bae Kyungseok, director at Korea Gas Corporation; and Kim Hyunjung of Handong University, who engaged in an in-depth discussion on realistic challenges for Pohang City's carbon neutrality.
This discussion, reflecting the voices of various stakeholders, is expected to serve as important data for setting the future business direction of the Carbon Neutrality Support Center.
Do Myung, Director of the Environment Bureau, stated, "Based on the discussions at this forum, we will prepare concrete strategies and strive to advance as a sustainable city in line with national carbon neutrality policies."
