On the 26th, Over 500 Mourners Attend President Park Jeong-hee's Birthplace Memorial Ceremony
On the 26th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk held the ‘45th Anniversary Memorial Service and Commemoration Ceremony for the Passing of President Park Jeong-hee’ at the birthplace of President Park Jeong-hee.
The event was attended by about 500 mourners, including Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi, Kim Hak-hong, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, National Assembly members Koo Ja-geun and Kang Myung-gu, and Park Gyo-sang, Chairman of the City Council, to honor President Park. The ceremony proceeded in the order of memorial rites, eulogy, listening to the president’s recorded voice, memorial performances, flower offering, and incense burning.
The Gumi Tea Association and the Republic of Korea Supporters Volunteer Group served coffee and tea to the mourners visiting the birthplace, while Morosilhoe prepared rice cakes for the departing mourners, adding to the warm memorial atmosphere.
Jung Jae-hwa, Director of the Park Jeong-hee Presidential Birthplace Preservation Association, which hosted and organized the event, stated, “President Park Jeong-hee’s confidence in ‘I can do it’ was the driving force behind South Korea’s growth into one of the world’s top 10 economies,” and pledged, “The Preservation Association will continue to carry on his legacy through various activities.”
Mayor Kim Jang-ho said in his eulogy, “Inheriting President Park Jeong-hee’s spirit of economic revival and education, we will write a new history for Gumi City by leveraging opportunities such as the designation of an education development special zone, the Seo Daegu?Uiseong express railway, the establishment of Sagok Station, and the opening of the Daegyeong Line.”
The Park Jeong-hee Presidential Birthplace Preservation Association promotes related commemorative projects such as annual memorial services and birthday events, and provides visitor convenience through the operation and management of the birthplace.
This year’s birthday cultural event, scheduled for November 14, will be held at Gumi CO (located in Sandong-eup) to consider the study environment of examinees, as it coincides with the college entrance exam day.
