Participation in '5GAA' Meeting... Experience Event for Self-Developed 'Soft V2X'
LG Electronics unveiled its self-developed traffic safety solution, 'Soft V2X,' at the German 5G (5th Generation Mobile Communication) Automotive Association meeting. This showcased the advancement of the core future mobility technology V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything communication) to both complete vehicle customers and general users.

LG Electronics announced on the 27th that it participated in the '5GAA (5G Automotive Association meeting)' held in Berlin, Germany from the 21st to the 24th (local time), where it showcased integrated traffic safety solutions including Soft V2X.
5GAA is a global vehicle communication alliance. Participants include complete vehicle manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and GM, telecommunications companies such as Vodafone and Deutsche Telekom, V2X companies like Commsignia, and automotive parts suppliers such as Bosch, Continental, and Denso, including LG Electronics. LG Electronics has been a founding member since 2016. At 5GAA, LG Electronics continues to collaborate with global companies to develop autonomous driving and traffic safety foundational technologies.
Soft V2X is a cloud-based service utilizing V2X technology, independently developed by LG Electronics. It collects anonymized data such as the location, direction, and speed of pedestrians and vehicles, and mutually shares and analyzes this information between vehicles and pedestrians. It provides real-time alerts to drivers predicted to be at risk. It also links with smart RSUs (Roadside Units) installed on roads to provide information on nearby road conditions and traffic signals. By using embedded software, it can be installed in future mobility devices such as autonomous vehicles and delivery robots.
During the meeting, LG Electronics demonstrated its excellent V2X technology to global companies and experts. It conducted a demonstration of the integrated traffic safety solution using Soft V2X on roads in downtown Berlin. Attendees and experts experienced the solution firsthand. Participants praised the effectiveness and completeness of LG Electronics’ integrated traffic safety solution provided to the general public in real environments.
Passengers boarded vehicles and shuttle buses traveling along a 5.6 km road within Berlin to experience various LG Electronics V2X technologies. When a vehicle in motion approached a crosswalk without traffic lights and a pedestrian or bicycle rapidly approached, the system induced deceleration and other social avoidance behaviors. Information was collected and analyzed via smart RSUs installed at intersections or Soft V2X app terminals, then communicated to drivers and pedestrians through the V2X solution. Real-time alerts were also provided to drivers in situations where workers were on the road or emergency vehicles were approaching.
LG Electronics applied European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) V2X standard-compatible technology to its integrated traffic safety solution. Previously, LG Electronics showcased a Soft V2X solution applying the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) V2X standard at the 5GAA meeting held in Detroit, USA, in October last year.

LG Electronics also strengthened its network with 5GAA member companies, complete vehicle manufacturers, and experts. Hak-Sung Kim, Research Fellow at LG Electronics’ CTO Division C&M Standards Research Lab, gave a presentation titled "The Next Steps for the Evolution of V2X." Based on ongoing demonstration project results, he proposed the ultimate evolutionary direction for V2X technology.
LG Electronics is conducting regional demonstration projects in three child protection zones around elementary schools and kindergartens in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, in Seongsan-myeon, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do, and in child protection zones around elementary and middle schools and kindergartens in Naseong-dong, Sejong City. Recently, it started a public-private cooperative experiential service demonstration project in Songdo, Incheon.
In the Sejong City demonstration project, 1,143 dangerous situations occurred over six months since the project began. Of the pedestrians and drivers who received real-time alerts, 80.1% changed their direction or reduced speed. In the Seoul demonstration project, 73.1% of users responded to 13,051 danger alerts. In the Gangneung demonstration project, 83% of users responded to 1,442 alerts. By analyzing and delivering real-time information occurring within an average of 0.05 seconds through V2X technology, the users’ exposure time to accident risk was reduced from 3.03 seconds to 1.93 seconds.
LG Electronics plans to advance the core technologies of Soft V2X and smart RSU and lead the hybrid V2X market, a future-oriented solution. Hybrid V2X is a technology that integrates short-range dedicated communication networks and long-range mobile communication networks, enhancing service accessibility and technological effectiveness as a next-generation V2X solution.
Jeyoung Ho, Head of LG Electronics’ CTO Division C&M Standards Research Lab, said, "We will continue to research and develop traffic safety and autonomous driving-related solutions, including Soft V2X, to secure leadership in the global market."
