Assemblyman Jeong Chunseng Criticized for 'Lack of Communication'

Police Commissioner Jo Ji-ho stated on the 25th regarding the backlash from field officers over the organizational restructuring plan, "It was implemented in the first half of this year," and added, "There are also positive evaluations that the Mobile Patrol Unit and the Criminal Mobile Unit are functioning effectively."

On the same day in the afternoon, Commissioner Jo responded to Rep. Jeong Chun-saeng of the Party for National Innovation's criticism that "there is a lack of communication with the National Police Workplace Council and frontline police."

Commissioner Jo said, "We are sufficiently gathering opinions through consultations with representatives of police workplace councils formed at each police station and the station chiefs, and providing support where necessary," adding, "We are directly communicating with the nationwide federation, so it is difficult to agree that there is no dialogue at all."

Min Gwan-gi, chairman of the Police Workplace Council, criticized, "Field officers are shackled while working, such as by installing GPS in patrol cars to monitor work, which infringes on human rights. This is an unacceptable and unfair order," and added, "Even when issues are raised on the ground, the Police Commissioner does not listen to these concerns at all."

Regarding the petition for the impeachment of the Police Commissioner, Chairman Min pointed out, "Most frontline police officers are angry and distrust the Police Commissioner. The petition was submitted less than 50 days after his inauguration, and the number of supporters has exceeded 50,000, which is something the Police Commissioner himself should reflect on."
