The Dokdo sculpture installed at the Cheonan campus of Sangmyung University is attracting attention.
According to the university on the 25th, as Japan has been claiming sovereignty over Dokdo for several years and concerns over historical distortion have continued, the university installed the "Dokdo on Land" sculpture.
The intention is to remind people of the spirit of "Love for Dokdo, Love for the Nation" by viewing Dokdo from the mainland.
The sculpture, installed on a large pond plaza, is a 1:75 scale model of the actual Dokdo, but it faithfully recreates the appearance of Dokdo floating on the sea.
In particular, it delicately depicts everything from the guardhouse protecting Dokdo, the solar power plant, the black-tailed gull habitat on the lighthouse, to the pebble beach.
Additionally, over 150 Taegeukgi flags have been displayed throughout the campus, allowing people to reflect on their love for the country in various places.
A university official said, "We hope that by seeing Dokdo on land at the Sangmyung University campus, where the spirit of the nation lives on, people will strengthen their resolve to protect our national territory and honor the will of our patriotic ancestors."
