Wonju City, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Mayor Won Kang-su), announced on the 25th that it has installed ‘illuminated optical fiber base number plates’ containing current location information at five sites around Pungmul Market in Pyeongwon-dong, Wonju City to improve nighttime walking conditions and prevent crime.

The illuminated optical fiber base number plates have the advantage of enabling accurate location identification, especially during nighttime emergencies, allowing for prompt response as well as during the day.

Wonju City selected installation locations targeting nighttime crime-prone areas within the Safe Citizen Street Project district in collaboration with the Wonju Police Station, applying Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) to ensure pedestrian safety and serve as nighttime security lighting.

A Wonju City official stated, “We expect that the installation of these illuminated base number plates will help improve nighttime walking conditions and prevent crime for Wonju citizens,” adding, “We will continue to install illuminated address information facilities to alleviate citizens’ security concerns and enhance convenience in daily life.”
