Relieving Chronic Congestion at Junghwa Station Intersection... Jungnang-gu Expands Right-Turn Lane at Junghwa Station Intersection

Expansion of Right-Turn Lane at Junghwa Station Intersection Toward Mukdong on Bonghwasan-ro and Dongil-ro
Resolved Traffic Flow Disruption Caused by Right-Turn Vehicles Occupying One Lane of Two-Lane One-Way Road
Installed Jungnang-gu Slogan and Large Planters in Remaining Space After Lane Installation... Improved Urban Aesthetics

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) has expanded the right-turn lane at Junghwa Station intersection from Bonghwasan-ro towards Dongil-ro Muk-dong direction.

As a result, it is expected that traffic inconvenience for vehicles passing through this section will be greatly improved.

The Junghwa Station intersection, where the construction was carried out, was frequently congested and vehicle entry and exit were inconvenient, making the expansion of the right-turn lane highly necessary.

Accordingly, the district has been promoting the expansion of the right-turn lane as one of the pledges of the 8th local government administration. Demolition work for the first section of obstructing buildings began in June 2022, followed by demolition work for the second section in October 2023. Finally, the lane opened on October 6, allowing vehicle traffic to commence.

With this lane expansion, the previous issue where right-turning vehicles occupied one lane out of the two one-way lanes, disrupting traffic flow, has been resolved, significantly improving the overall traffic situation.

In particular, the expansion of the right-turn lane has resulted in a traffic volume dispersion effect on the existing road, leading to smoother vehicle movement. The severe congestion at Junghwa Station intersection during peak commuting hours and heavy traffic times is expected to be greatly alleviated through this expansion project.

Additionally, the district plans to install the Jungnang-gu slogan and large flower pots in the remaining idle space after the right-turn lane installation, improving the urban aesthetics of the area. Not only has the traffic flow improved, but the landscape of Junghwa Station intersection has also been tidied up, receiving positive responses from residents.

The district plans to develop this area into a small plaza to provide a pleasant environment for residents.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, “We are pleased to provide residents with a more comfortable living environment by alleviating traffic congestion and improving the local landscape through the expansion of the right-turn lane.” He added, “We will continue to strive for improvements in traffic conditions and urban aesthetics.”
