At the meeting, agenda items such as medical facilities, cultural infrastructure, tram, roads, and living environment improvements in the Dongtan area were discussed. The party and government agreed that the 'Dongtan Tram,' which the city is promoting to provide eco-friendly public transportation services, will undergo approval for a basic plan change by the Metropolitan Area Transport Committee next month, and the main project will be ordered in the first half of next year.
The Dongtan Tram is planned as two lines: Line 1 (16.4 km) connecting Suwon Mangpo Station through Dongtan 1 and 2 New Towns north to south, linking to Osan Osan Station; and Line 2 (17.8 km) connecting Byeongjeom Station through Dongtan Station to the vehicle depot.
Along with this, the party and government decided to actively attract a general hospital to Dongtan 2 District to secure beds, which are below the national average, and to provide high-quality medical services for severe diseases. Previously, the city submitted consultation opinions regarding the development plan change for Dongtan 2 District to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and once the development plan is changed, the project will be promoted step by step.
They also agreed to join efforts for the construction of an art museum in Osandong. This project has passed the local financial investment review of Gyeonggi Province, recently completed the land purchase contract, and aims to open in 2028.
At the meeting, the following agenda items were also discussed: ▲solving vacant stores near Dongtan Station ▲support for small business owners ▲rapid promotion of the connecting road over the Gyeongbu Expressway ▲expansion of parking spaces at Hwaseong Arts Center ▲reinforcement of gateball courts in Dongtan 7 and 9-dong ▲erection of the Statue of Peace in Dongtan Lake Park ▲creation of a dedicated caravan parking lot ▲noise and dust countermeasures on Yonggu-daero ▲construction of Gyeonggi Lifelong Education and Culture Center ▲establishment of a national archery range ▲expansion of public daycare centers ▲creation of youth playground in Dongtan 7-dong ▲utilization plan for the Dongtan 9-dong Administrative Welfare Center as a child and youth center ▲construction of a youth culture house in Dongtan 6-dong ▲promotion of a youth support center ▲installation of a pedestrian path between Chidongcheon and Jungri Reservoir ▲Dongtan 8-dong ecological park ▲promotion of Botanic Garden ▲additional construction of pedestrian bridges over Jangji Stream ▲maintenance of riverside walking trails along Chidongcheon and Songbangcheon ▲installation of smart shelter-type bus stops at Dongtan airport bus stops.
