105-Year-Old British Grandmother's Unique Love for Guinness
"Drinking Guinness Since Her Late Teens, Still Enjoying It"
A 105-year-old grandmother living in the UK credited a glass of beer and being single as the secrets to her longevity.
On the 23rd (local time), the Daily Mail reported the story of Kathleen Hennings, who celebrated her 105th birthday on the 2nd. On that day, Kathleen enjoyed her birthday party by having a glass of beer with fellow nursing home residents, friends, and staff. Reflecting on her happy past, she revealed the secret to living a long and happy life. She advised, "Drink Guinness and don't get married."
Born in 1919, Kathleen worked as an accountant in London for several years. After finishing work in the evenings, she would dance in Covent Garden, London, and regularly visited the Royal Opera House to watch operas and ballets. Kathleen lived in London until the end of World War II but decided to live in a quiet countryside in 1965. Afterwards, she moved to the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire with her mother, brother, and pet dog.
Kathleen’s special love for Guinness was greatly influenced by her parents. She said, "My whole family liked Guinness, so we drank Guinness. I got to know Guinness through my parents in my late teens, and they regularly drank Guinness too." She added, "My family often had Guinness with meals, and I still drink it to this day." To celebrate Kathleen’s 105th birthday, the beer brand Stout gave gifts including Guinness, chocolates, an apron, and slippers.
Currently, she lives in a nursing home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Malaika Charles, a staff member at the nursing home, said, "It was truly wonderful to see Kathleen celebrating her birthday with the people she loves. We put a lot of effort into making her day memorable, and we thank everyone who offered Kathleen a glass of beer."
