"Just Told Her to Put Her Hand In..." Prosecutors Seek 1-Year Prison Sentence for Woman Walking Around Wearing Only a Box

Indecent Exposure at Performance... Sentencing on December 12
Also on Trial for Drug Purchase Charges

The prosecution has requested a one-year prison sentence for a woman in her 20s who, while naked except for a box on the street, asked passersby to touch her breasts.

On the 24th, the prosecution requested at the Seoul Central District Court during the sentencing hearing that Lee, known as the so-called 'Apgujeong Box Woman,' be sentenced to one year in prison for this act, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency on the same day. The prosecution also requested prison sentences of one year and one year and six months respectively for two others indicted together, including the CEO of an adult content production company.

Lee and others were brought to trial on charges of public obscenity for going around busy areas such as Apgujeong and Hongdae in Seoul last October, allowing passersby to put their hands inside the box to touch her breasts. They filmed the scenes of people touching the breasts and posted the videos on social networking services (SNS), after which Lee became known as the 'Apgujeong Box Woman.' Additionally, when Lee's actions became a hot topic, they planned an expensive fan meeting charging 650,000 won per person but canceled it after controversy.

In the defendant's examination, Lee claimed, "At the time, only my arms and legs were exposed, and I only told passersby to put their hands inside the box if they were curious about what was inside, not to directly touch my breasts." When asked by the defense attorney, "How did the people who put their hands inside the box react?" Lee answered, "No one was displeased," and when asked, "Did you ever think this was an obscene act?" she replied, "No." Lee also added that she intended to donate any profits if her notoriety increased due to these actions.

In response to the court's remark, "You also said in the SNS video that if followers exceeded 100,000, you would make holes in other parts," Lee said, "I had no plans to carry that out," adding, "It was to attract people's attention." In her final statement, Lee said, "I apologize for causing social controversy with my actions," and "I will never stand in court for the same matter again." Lee's attorney requested, "Please review comprehensively whether the defendant's actions are obscene, considering the exposed body parts, extent, and motive, so that no injustice remains."

Lee's first trial sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 12. Meanwhile, Lee is also being tried separately at the same court on charges of purchasing ketamine, a controlled substance (violation of the Act on the Control of Narcotics).
