The term ‘emotion’ is defined in the dictionary as feelings or sensations in response to external stimuli. However, for the MZ generation, emotion goes beyond mere expression of feelings; it becomes an important means of communicating their tastes and identity in the digital world.
According to the 'Tourism Trends Annual Report' published by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2023, the MZ generation is not satisfied with simply visiting tourist spots. They seek healing experiences and aim to express their lifestyle through sensory photos and content. If a place offers unique scenery or experiences that stimulate their emotions, they do not hesitate to visit, share those experiences on SNS, and build a sense of community.
One place recommended for providing such sensory experiences is Juwangsan National Park, located at the heart of ‘Oxygen Cafe Cheongsong,’ where green forests and fresh air coexist.
Juwangsan National Park is South Korea’s twelfth national park and was registered as the country’s second UNESCO Global Geopark in 2017, following Jeju Island. There are only three places in South Korea that are both national parks and UNESCO Global Geoparks: Jeju Island (Hallasan), Juwangsan, and Mudeungsan. This recognition highlights both their geological value and scenic beauty domestically and internationally.
Despite its stunning landscapes, Juwangsan National Park ranks only 19th in mention frequency among 23 national parks, according to the '2024 National Park Exploration Trend Outlook and Analysis Report' published by the National Park Research Institute. This indicates that it is not widely known among the MZ generation or visitors.
However, this ranking does not mean that Juwangsan’s natural scenery is inferior to other national parks.
It takes at least three hours from major cities like Seoul, Daejeon, and Gwangju to reach Cheongsong, and accessibility is limited due to inconvenient public transportation. Because it is difficult to get to, its charm has not been widely recognized. If you are willing to endure some transportation inconvenience, you can personally experience the beautiful autumn of Juwangsan National Park, which is designated both as a national park and a UNESCO Global Geopark.
Upon arriving at Juwangsan National Park, the first thing that catches your eye is the majestic ‘cliff rock formations’ that seem to stretch up to the sky. When you see these cliff rock formations gradually appearing as you drive along the road, get ready to take emotional photos. This spot is more than just a scenic view; it is one of the representative photo spots where the MZ generation captures their life shots.
Before entering the park trails, have a hearty meal at the popular restaurants lining the park entrance road, then head toward Daejeonsa Temple. Walking with the historic Daejeonsa Temple, founded during the Silla Dynasty, and the grand backdrop of Janggunbong Peak, your busy daily life and work stress will soon fade away, leaving you with a peaceful mind. It is an ideal healing spot for meditation.
Walking a bit further along the trail reveals the true value of Juwangsan: the ‘Yongchu Gorge.’ Formed by volcanic eruptions and erosion, this gorge is a masterpiece created by nature. It is a great place to make wonderful memories amidst the autumn foliage of Juwang Valley in October.
For the MZ generation seeking to escape the polluted air and stress of the city, Juwangsan’s pristine natural environment aligns perfectly with wellness trends. Those who recognize the true value of Juwangsan have plenty of reasons to visit.
Juwangsan is not just a natural attraction but a special space where you can recharge your emotions and experience both healing and adventure. With all the elements the MZ generation desires, Juwangsan has great potential to emerge as a new travel destination for young people.
