Mayor Joo: "3rd Phase New Town Namyangju as a Launchpad... We Will Create a Premium Self-Sufficient City"

This inspection was arranged to review the progress of public development projects in the Namyangju area, such as the 3rd phase new towns (Wangsuk and Wangsuk 2 districts), Jinjeop 2 district, and Yangjeong Station area development projects, and to request cooperation on additional supplementary matters.


Mayor Joo, along with key officials from Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH), participated in the inspection, visiting the development sites of Jinjeop 2 district, Wangsuk and Wangsuk 2 districts, and Yangjeong Station area in sequence to discuss cooperation plans.


The public development projects in the Namyangju area, including Wangsuk New Town, the largest among the 3rd phase new towns, cover a total area of 16.04 million square meters (approximately 4.85 million pyeong), aiming to create about 100,000 public housing units and a 1.2 million square meter urban high-tech industrial complex.


Currently, housing project plan approvals have been granted for 42 out of 142 blocks, and 10,967 pre-sale applications have been completed.


During the site inspection, Mayor Joo ordered the following: △ the prompt establishment of a specialized plan to attract a large-scale complex shopping mall and a luxury hotel in the GTX special design zone of Wangsuk district △ the formulation of an eco-friendly hydrogen city plan for Wangsuk 2 district △ the swift implementation of metropolitan transportation improvement measures such as Suseok Bridge and the extension of Line 9 △ the preparation of integrated and linked plans for Wangsuk district and the additionally incorporated Jingeon district.


The city plans to thoroughly ensure that the project proceeds without setbacks by seeking solutions to issues that may cause delays through this inspection, aiming to complete infrastructure projects such as metropolitan transportation improvement measures and environmental basic facilities by 2026-2027 when occupancy begins.


Mayor Joo Gwang-deok emphasized, “For the success of new town development, not only rapid progress but also the quality of infrastructure and construction safety must be supported. The 3rd phase new towns are the cornerstone for Namyangju’s leap forward, and we will create a city that citizens can take pride in.”


Jang Hee-cheol, Head of LH Namyangju Project Headquarters, stated, “We will actively accept Namyangju City’s demands and cooperate with the city on major issues to proceed with key projects such as job creation and metropolitan transportation network construction without setbacks.”


Meanwhile, the Namyangju area public development projects are being promoted with the goal of sequential completion, starting with the completion of the Wangsuk New Town (Wangsuk and Wangsuk 2 districts) project in 2028.
