Violation of the Stalking Punishment Act

Lee Jong-bae, a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Council from the People Power Party, filed a police complaint against Democratic Party lawmakers Jang Kyung-tae, Lee Geon-tae, and Lee Seong-yoon for accompanying the execution of the accompaniment order during the National Assembly inspection of First Lady Kim Geon-hee.

On the morning of the 24th, Lee's office announced that they had reported the three lawmakers to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act. Lee stated, "They went to the residence of the First Lady, claiming they would execute the accompaniment order without any authority, and shouted loudly," adding, "This constitutes causing anxiety or fear by visiting the residence without justifiable reason against the other party's will under the Stalking Punishment Act." He further added, "It is an unprecedented incident in constitutional history that they caused a disturbance by visiting the residence of the sitting First Lady."

Earlier, on the 21st, Lawmakers Jang and others visited the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, along with staff from the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee for observation purposes. The execution of the accompaniment order issued to First Lady Kim was unsuccessful.
