Paju-si Takes Action to Eradicate Illegal Wildlife Trapping Paju City Hall exterior.

Gyeonggi Paju City announced on the 24th that it will conduct intensive crackdowns on poaching and illegal trade activities from November to December to eradicate the illegal capture of wild animals.

Last month, the city caught two individuals illegally capturing wild boars in Jindong-myeon and referred the case to the Paju Police Station for investigation. According to Article 19 of the Wildlife Protection and Management Act, anyone who illegally captures or kills wild animals faces imprisonment of up to two years or a fine of up to 20 million won.

The city plans to crack down on activities such as capturing, acquiring, transferring, receiving, transporting, storing, or manufacturing, selling, and possessing illegal capture tools.

Additionally, the city will conduct promotional activities to raise public awareness about the seriousness of illegal wild animal capture and to prevent illegal trade of wild animals caused by misguided health practices whose effectiveness has not been proven.

Jo Yoon-ok, Director of the Environmental Guidance Division, stated, “We will do our best to strengthen crackdowns on illegal wild animal capture to protect endangered species and enhance biodiversity.”
