On the 24th, the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced that it had received an official document requesting an investigation into whether the officetel owned by Moon is being operated as an illegal lodging business.

Recently, Yeongdeungpo-gu received complaints suggesting the need to verify whether Moon is operating a lodging business using a shared lodging platform without residing in the officetel. Accordingly, on the 22nd at around 4 p.m., Yeongdeungpo-gu conducted an on-site inspection of the officetel near Yeongdeungpo Station on Subway Line 1, owned by Moon, but the door was closed at the time, so it was not confirmed whether the officetel was actually being used for lodging business.

Under current law, to operate an officetel as a shared lodging business, facilities and equipment must be installed in accordance with the Public Health Act, and a public health business report must be filed with the local district office. Moon purchased the officetel on June 23, 2021. According to the registry, Moon is the sole owner.

Meanwhile, allegations have also arisen that a villa in Yangpyeong-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, previously owned by Moon before moving to Thailand, was once used as an illegal lodging business. Earlier, suspicions were raised that lodging business was conducted without registration at a house owned by Moon in Hallim-eup, Jeju City, leading Jeju City to request a police investigation.
