Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 24th that it took the first step toward realizing the 'One Neighborhood, One Food Market' initiative by holding the opening ceremony of the Dongjak Mini Food Market at the Shindaebang 1-dong Community Center the day before.
The district plans to enhance accessibility and services by installing 'Mini Food Markets' at key institutions within the district to ensure timely delivery of goods to residents in need, such as low-income individuals, elderly living alone, and people with disabilities.
The 'Food Market' is a representative community-based welfare service that provides food and daily necessities donated by companies or individuals free of charge to vulnerable groups.
This 'Mini Food Market' was launched with the support of E-Mart by setting up a small store in unused spaces of key institutions within the district to improve accessibility for those who have difficulty using existing food markets due to mobility issues or long distances.
The 'Shindaebang 1-dong Community Center Mini Food Market,' which opened on the 23rd, prioritizes support for vulnerable residents living nearby, including case management subjects identified at welfare facilities or households in crisis requiring urgent assistance. Selected residents can use the market once a month, and those who already use the existing Dongjak Food Market or Our Neighborhood Food Market cannot use it concurrently.
The district plans to expand the Food Market by additionally opening Mini Food Markets at Heukseok Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Daebang Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and other locations within the year, considering the number of users per neighborhood and regional balance, thereby realizing the 'One Neighborhood, One Food Market' goal.
