Boryeong City in Chungnam Province and the Boryeong Office of Education announced on the 24th that they plan to build the (tentatively named) Boryeong Student Swimming Pool, a certified level 3 facility, at the site of Hannae Girls' Middle School by 2029.

The Boryeong Student Swimming Pool was selected as an outstanding project in the Ministry of Education's school complex facility competition in April. If it passes the joint investment review by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, 50% of the funding will be provided by the central government.

The city plans to construct the student swimming pool as a building with one basement floor and two above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 5,959 square meters. It will include a certified level 3 swimming pool (50 meters, 8 lanes), a football field, and other facilities.

The facility is expected to contribute to practical survival swimming education for students, training for swimming athletes, and the revitalization of sports activities for citizens.

Currently, there are about 700 student and general swimming athletes in Chungnam Province, including reserve athletes, but there are only two certified swimming pools in the northern region (Cheonan and Asan), which is insufficient to meet the training needs of athletes.

The swimming pool at the Boryeong National Sports Center is also too small to meet the demand for swimming activities among citizens, so the need for an additional swimming pool has been continuously raised.

With the construction of the Boryeong Student Swimming Pool, it will be possible to host selection competitions organized by city and provincial federations as well as large-scale events such as the Provincial Sports Festival. It is also expected to serve as a useful training venue for swimming athletes from neighboring cities, counties, and other provinces.

Mayor Kim Dongil said, "Boryeong City and the Boryeong Office of Education will join forces to successfully build a certified level 3 student swimming pool. We will dramatically expand the region's sports infrastructure and spare no effort in fully supporting the revitalization of sports activities for Boryeong citizens."
