On October 24, 28, and 31, three sessions with 50 experts each will conduct advanced pet care lectures to establish a proper companion culture... Topics include animal medicine purchase and usage, dog joint massage, pet photography, and other useful subjects for pet life
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will hold the '2024 Companion Animal Culture Special Lecture' three times starting from October 24th in the small conference room on the 10th floor of Seongdong-gu Office to foster a happy companion culture.
As of 2023, companion animal households in Korea account for 28.2% of all households, reaching 6.74 million households. This is nearly double the 3.64 million households recorded in 2012.
In response to the gradual increase in companion animal households, Seongdong-gu has prepared the companion animal culture special lectures on October 24th, 28th, and 31st to establish a proper companion culture and enhance awareness of respect for animal life.
The lectures will cover three topics for wise companion living: ▲ animal medicine ▲ joint care ▲ photography techniques. Experts in each field will conduct in-depth lectures for small groups of 50 people per session, promising a more profound and beneficial experience.
First, on the 24th, pharmacist Kim Geon-ho, who operates an animal pharmacy, will give a lecture on ‘Purchasing and Using Animal Medicine.’ Guardians unfamiliar with animal pharmacies will learn about veterinary pharmaceuticals and how to use them effectively.
Notably, this is the first nationwide animal medicine lecture aimed at the general public.
On the 28th, a lecture on ‘Companion Dog Joint Massage’ will be held. According to the '2023 Korea Companion Animal Report (published by KB Financial Group),' the most popular dog breeds in Korea are Maltese (25.9%), Poodle (21.4%), and Pomeranian (10.3%), with small breeds making up the majority.
Since small dogs with small bodies and joints tend to have weaker joints, consistent care is important. Dr. Kim Seok-jung, director of 24H Central Animal Medical Center in the region, will teach proper and safe joint massage and stretching methods for companion dogs.
On the 31st, animal photographer Yeom Ho-young will give a lecture on ‘Companion Animal Photography Techniques.’ Participants will learn smartphone photography techniques to capture so-called ‘dog life shots’ to cherish happy memories with their pets in a special way.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "I hope that the useful information gained through this companion animal culture special lecture will be well utilized to lead a healthy and happy companion life," and added, "We will continue to show interest and support to improve awareness of companion animals and establish a proper companion culture."
