Chungnam Province stated regarding the exclusion of the Cheongyang Jicheon Dam from the government's list of candidate sites for climate response dams, "We will work to build public consensus among residents so that it can be selected as a candidate site."
Goo Sang, Director of the Environment and Forest Bureau, held a meeting at the provincial government office on the 23rd and said, "Cheongyang Jicheon Dam has not been excluded from the final list of candidate sites," adding, "In response to residents' requests, we plan to hold additional briefing sessions in Buyeo and Cheongyang."
He further explained, "We will clearly distinguish between what the government is responsible for and what the province can do, and proceed accordingly," and added, "Although a conclusion will not be reached overnight, we will work to build consensus among residents."
Previously, on the 21st, the Ministry of Environment excluded four sites, including Cheongyang Jicheon Dam, from the 14 candidate sites for climate response dams.
The Ministry of Environment stated that the dam construction has not been completely canceled, but also noted that if resident opposition continues, it will be difficult to pursue the project again.
