A woman in her 90s suffering from dementia died after falling from an apartment.

According to the Bundang Police Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, a report was received around 11 a.m. the previous day that a person was hanging from the window of a sixth-floor balcony in an apartment located in Bundang-gu, Seongnam. The police, together with the fire department, rushed to the scene, but the woman in her 90s, identified as Ms. A, who was hanging outside the window, could not hold on and fell. Ms. A was taken to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest but ultimately passed away.

It was confirmed that Ms. A was alone at home when the accident occurred, as her family members had gone out. The family had reportedly installed an additional lock on the front door due to concerns about Ms. A’s dementia-related wandering. Based on this, the police presume that Ms. A attempted to go outside through the window, leading to the accident, and are currently investigating the detailed circumstances of the incident.
