PCC, Announcement of Appointment for 3 Chief Prosecutors and 4 Ordinary Prosecutors

The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (HCIO), which has been unable to fill its prosecutor quota due to a series of resignations, announced on the 23rd a recruitment notice to appoint seven prosecutors, including three chief prosecutors and four ordinary prosecutors.


According to the HCIO Act, the total number of HCIO prosecutors is 25, but recently, Prosecutor Yoon Sang-hyeok of Investigation Division 4 was processed for resignation, leaving the current number of HCIO prosecutors at 18. Moreover, there are more prosecutors whose terms are about to expire or who are scheduled to resign, and for four prosecutors?Investigation Division 4 Chief Prosecutor Lee Dae-hwan, Investigation Planning Officer Cha Jeong-hyun, and Investigation Division 3 Prosecutors Song Young-seon and Choi Moon-jung?who have had their reappointment proposals approved, President Yoon Seok-yeol has not yet given final approval for reappointment. If President Yoon does not approve the reappointment by midnight on the 27th, all four prosecutors will have their terms expire.

The term of office for HCIO prosecutors is three years, and they can be reappointed up to three times. The mandatory retirement age is 63.


Applications will be accepted for eight days from the 28th until November 4th, and only online applications through the designated website will be accepted.


Applicants must, as of the public recruitment announcement date, have at least 12 years of lawyer qualification for chief prosecutors and at least 7 years for ordinary prosecutors. Those with more than three years of actual investigative experience working in investigative agencies, including military prosecution, will be given preference in the document screening. For ordinary prosecutors, applicants who have passed the 6th bar exam or later are eligible to apply.


After the application period ends, document screening (November) and interviews (December) will be conducted, and after the Personnel Committee's recommendation process, the President will make the final appointment.


The HCIO stated that for the ordinary prosecutors' interview, they plan to expand group interview time and add practical exercises on preparing investigation-related documents to secure the ability to distinguish outstanding talent.
