Accelerating Securing Future Growth Engines
Toray Advanced Materials is expanding its production facilities for IT films and aramid fibers, which are future growth engines.
On the 23rd, Toray Advanced Materials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of production facilities for IT films units 13 and 14, and aramid fiber unit 2 at its Gumi Plant 5 in Gyeongbuk.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by more than 200 government and local officials including Yoo Beop-min, Director General of Investment Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; Koichi Mitsushima, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Korea; Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do; Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi; as well as company officials including Akihiro Nikkaku, Chairman of Toray, Young-kwan Lee, Chairman of Toray Advanced Materials, and Young-seop Kim, CEO.
The IT film production line will have an annual capacity of 300 million square meters and plans to produce and supply MLCC separator films. Upon completion of the expansion in the second half of 2026, Toray Advanced Materials will secure an annual supply capacity of 900 million square meters of MLCC separator films.
MLCC is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 10% until 2030 due to the high performance of IT devices and the electrification of automobiles. Toray Advanced Materials, which possesses the world’s top technology in the MLCC separator film sector, plans to actively respond to the growing demand based on its high-quality and stable supply capabilities.
Toray Advanced Materials, which holds the world’s largest polyester film supply capacity, aims to solidify its position as a high-performance advanced film maker and contribute to the development of the IT industry through innovative next-generation product development based on an integrated production system from polymerization to polyester film and advanced processing.
Additionally, Toray Advanced Materials, which produces meta-aramids, plans to expand its second production unit with an annual capacity of 3,000 tons at Gumi Plant 1, targeting mid-2025 for operation. Combined with the first unit, it will secure a total annual supply capacity of 5,400 tons.
Toray Advanced Materials’ aramid fibers are the world’s second to apply the dry spinning method, offering uniform quality and excellent electrical and thermal properties, and are used in high-performance heat-resistant clothing, electric vehicles, and ultra-high voltage transformers. The meta-aramid fiber market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 5% until 2030.
CEO Young-seop Kim stated, "We will continuously expand future growth engines through ongoing research and development and investment," adding, "We will strive even harder for national economic development and revitalization of the regional economy."
