Sold out in about 20 minutes daily during pre-order period
From 8 AM on the 24th, nearby store stock can be checked on the CU app
Card discounts also available to celebrate offline sales
CU, a convenience store operated by BGF Retail, announced on the 23rd that its 'Chestnut Tiramisu,' which has been selling out in mobile pre-orders, will be available at offline stores nationwide starting on the 24th of this month (the 25th in Jeju).
CU's Chestnut Tiramisu (4,900 KRW) is scheduled to be stocked daily at about 18,000 stores nationwide, and from 8 a.m. on the 24th, customers can check inventory through CU's proprietary app, PocketCU.
Additionally, to celebrate the offline sale of Chestnut Tiramisu, CU will offer a 50% discount when paying with the CU Npay card and a 20% discount when paying with the Shinhan Card QR registered on Naver Pay until the end of next month.
Chestnut Tiramisu is a product made using the recipe of Chef Kwon Seong-jun of 'Napoli Mafia,' the winner of the recent popular Netflix cooking competition show 'Black and White Chef.' It is a dessert that allows you to enjoy the sweet taste of chestnuts and cream cheese, made with chestnut fresh cream, toffee nut latte, cookies, chocolate, granola, and more. Chef Kwon received high praise from the judges by presenting Chestnut Tiramisu as a mission dish using convenience store ingredients on Black and White Chef.
CU initially planned to release this product nationwide in mid-month after pre-selling it on PocketCU. However, due to a shortage of stock caused by the prepared quantity selling out within about 20 minutes on the first day of pre-sale, the offline release date was postponed. In fact, during the nine-day pre-sale period, an average of 10,000 to 20,000 units of Chestnut Tiramisu sold out within 20 minutes each day. The total sales volume to date has reached 150,000 units. Notably, on the 16th, 10,000 units sold out in just four minutes, which equates to 40 units sold per second, setting a record for the fastest and largest quantity sold since the launch of PocketCU.
With customers flocking to PocketCU for pre-orders, new sign-ups this month have increased more than threefold compared to last month. Among the top 10 popular search terms on PocketCU, more than seven are related to Chestnut Tiramisu. Sales of products used by Chef Kwon Seong-jun to make Chestnut Tiramisu on Black and White Chef, such as Yonsei Milk fresh cream bread and HEYROO Matbam Deuktem, jumped about 30-40% immediately after the broadcast.
CU is working to improve product quality by reflecting customer feedback on Chestnut Tiramisu and collaborating with Chef Kwon to enhance the recipe, including sweetness levels. All products purchased at offline stores from the 24th onward will be made with the first revised recipe.
Meanwhile, on the 30th of this month, CU will also launch 'Yonsei Milk Chestnut Tiramisu Fresh Cream Bread' (3,400 KRW), made using Chef Kwon’s recipe. This dessert bread is filled with chestnut fresh cream, which accounts for 80% of the product’s weight, and coffee custard inside chocolate bread.
Kim Goni, a product planner (MD) of the Snack Food Team at BGF Retail, said, "CU’s Chestnut Tiramisu is an original convenience store product that faithfully implements the recipe of winner Chef Kwon Seong-jun and is currently so popular that it cannot be kept in stock." He added, "We will continue to strengthen collaboration with experts in various fields and actively pursue the development of differentiated products that can provide new enjoyment to customers."
