Jeju Technopark Yongam Seawater Center and Technology Development MOU
Dongwon F&B announced on the 23rd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Jeju Technopark Lava Seawater Center to develop smart land-based aquaculture technology for gim and seaweed.
Through this MOU, the company explained that it plans to accelerate the development of smart land-based gim aquaculture technology using Jeju lava seawater and secure high-quality raw materials.
Jeju lava seawater, extracted from bedrock 150 meters underground, is 'salt groundwater' filtered over a long period by volcanic bedrock layers mainly composed of basalt. It is rich in minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and vanadium, and its water temperature remains stable around 16 degrees Celsius throughout the year.
Dongwon F&B, which holds the number one market share in gim, has maintained its industry leadership through premium raw materials (gim raw materials) and differentiated packaging technology. Going forward, it plans to jointly develop smart land-based aquaculture technology for gim and other seaweeds by leveraging the advantages of Jeju lava seawater.
A Dongwon F&B official stated, "The two companies plan to introduce collaborative products utilizing processed food development and the Lava Seawater Center brand in the mid to long term," adding, "By combining Dongwon's over 40 years of accumulated seaweed research and development (R&D) capabilities with Jeju lava seawater, we will take the lead in advancing K-food."
