Full of Generation-Specific Programs Including Dongchun Circus and Cultural Experience Street
Complete Traffic Control on 600m Section of 6-Lane Road
Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) will hold the ‘Yangcheon Family Street Festival’ on the 27th along the six-lane road near Sinjeongnegeori Station.
At this street festival, cultural experience zones reflecting the characteristics of each era will be operated with core themes that resonate across all generations, such as the ‘5060 Cultural Experience Street,’ ‘7080 Cultural Experience Street,’ and the ‘Youth Street,’ creating a harmonious space where memories and emotions of each generation come together.
In the ‘5060 Cultural Experience Street,’ which evokes nostalgia from the 1950s and 60s, the 99-year-old traditional ‘Dongchun Circus,’ founded in 1925, will present a special stage that three generations of families can enjoy together. The performances will be held twice, at 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM, featuring thrilling and awe-inspiring programs such as dizzying aerial acrobatics performed 8 meters above ground, acrobatics, face-changing magic, cylinder balancing, and ring gymnastics, lasting for 60 minutes.
The ‘7080 Cultural Experience Street’ will feature a DJ music box-centered 70s and 80s retro dance flash mob and busking performances. In particular, eight ‘retro sets’ recreating alleys from the 1970s and 80s, including stationery stores, electronics shops, comic book rooms, photo studios, and record shops, as well as ‘Yangcheon Elementary School,’ will allow visitors to feel the atmosphere of the old days. At the ‘Youth Uniform Shop,’ visitors can wear old school uniforms and experience nostalgic activities such as making dalgona candy and tasting old-fashioned snacks.
The ‘Youth Street’ is a playground for the MZ generation and offers a unique experience for older generations, featuring a ‘Silent Disco Party’ and a ‘Bartender Cocktail Show.’
Additionally, reflecting the latest cultural trends of people in their 20s, the area is set up with 12 booths. Unique experiences include ▲Reels and TikTok dance challenges where visitors can learn popular dance challenges ▲easy, quick, and removable digital tattoos ▲a 3D stereoscopic game zone using VR content ▲high-angle aerial shot photo booths for life’s four-cut photos ▲custom perfume making, and more.
Furthermore, at the Yangcheon Book Festival, to celebrate author Han Kang’s Nobel Prize in Literature, a ‘Han Kang Special Book Corner’ will be set up to specially exhibit 6 to 7 representative works including Vegetarian and The Boy Is Coming. Services will also be provided to access Han Kang’s books as e-books at the e-book and audio booths.
To facilitate the festival, from 10 PM on Saturday the 26th to 4 AM on Monday the 28th, a total of 30 hours of full vehicle restrictions will be enforced on a roughly 600-meter section of the six-lane Sinwol-ro road near Sinjeongnegeori (from Sinjeongnegeori Station to the intersection in front of Sinwol-ro 347). Detailed information can be found on the Yangcheon-gu Office website (Notices).
During the 30 hours of vehicle entry restrictions, the district will deploy traffic control personnel at 12 key points to ensure pedestrian safety and reduce driver inconvenience through detour guidance.
Mayor Lee Gi-jae stated, “I believe the answers to social issues such as generational conflicts, isolation, and seclusion that our society is experiencing can be found in the restoration of family and, ultimately, the harmony of the community. I hope this festival will be a time for three generations to hold hands, experience each generation’s culture, and reflect once again on the importance and value of family.”
