Gwak Nojeong "HBM3E 12-Stack, Mass Production Within the Year as Planned"

Pre-Event Briefing for the 17th Semiconductor Day on the 22nd
"AI Market Outlook Looks Good for Next Year"... Silent on Collaboration with iMEC

Kwack No-jeong, Chairman of the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association and CEO of SK Hynix, announced on the 22nd that the mass production schedule for the 12-layer HBM3E, a 5th generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM) flagship product, will proceed as planned within this year. Although there are variables such as the mass production and shipment timing of Nvidia's artificial intelligence (AI) accelerators, the plan is to follow the scheduled mass production timeline.

Before the start of the '17th Semiconductor Day' commemorative event held at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Chairman Kwack met with reporters and was asked whether there would be any disruption in the supply plan for the 12-layer HBM3E, a 5th generation high-bandwidth memory (HBM), depending on the mass production and shipment timing of Nvidia's AI accelerators. He replied, "I cannot disclose that," but added, "The shipment and supply timing will proceed as planned."

Regarding concerns about competition from Chinese companies and the possibility of oversupply, he said he was not greatly worried. Chairman Kwack stated, "The AI market next year seems to be quite good, but the rest needs to be seen," adding, "(PC and mobile) growth is slowing and feels stagnant, but thanks to AI, I expect some improvement next year."

Chairman Kwack was reserved about collaboration with IMEC on AI and next-generation memory. He said, "It is difficult to disclose business-related details." Regarding CXL and next-generation AI memory semiconductors, he said, "We (SK Hynix) are visibly releasing products according to customer demand," and added, "By around next year, such product launches will become visible."
