Securities Industry Sees 'Hangang Syndrome' Fade, 'Ros? Fever' Rise

YG Plus Hits Upper Limit Two Days in a Row
Global Craze for Ros?'s New Song 'Apartment'
Careful Consideration Needed on Benefit Status

Until just a week ago, the domestic stock market was buzzing with the 'Hangang Syndrome,' but now the apartment (APT.) trend is sweeping through. The song Apartment, released through a collaboration between girl group BLACKPINK's Ros? and pop star Bruno Mars, has gained worldwide popularity, causing related stocks to surge simultaneously.

According to the financial investment industry on the 23rd, YG PLUS rose 69% in just two days. It closed trading at the daily limit for two consecutive days. YG Entertainment and Genie Music also increased by 8% and 19%, respectively.

Apartment, released on the 18th, entered the top ranks on various music platforms. It is gaining popularity not only domestically but also overseas. On the day of release, it ranked 3rd globally and 11th in the U.S. on Spotify’s ‘Daily Top Songs,’ setting the highest entry record for a K-pop solo female artist. According to Ros?’s agency, The Black Label, Apartment reached number one on iTunes charts in a total of 40 regions.

Individual investors began searching for related stocks. YG PLUS handles investment distribution of albums and music as well as operating music platforms. As of the end of the first half of this year, YG Entertainment holds a 21.6% stake in The Black Label.

Earlier, in June this year, Ros? signed a solo management contract with The Black Label, led by producer Teddy. She also signed with the global record label Atlantic Records, laying the groundwork for activities both domestically and internationally.

The financial investment industry expects the popularity of Apartment to spread further. However, they advised cautiously selecting beneficiary stocks with strong performance relevance to Apartment’s popularity. This is because the rise in related stocks may not continue. Especially if there is no direct connection, the decline could be greater.

Yes24, which had continued its upward trend until just a week ago, fell 39% from its peak within five trading days. Yes24’s stock price recorded daily limits for two consecutive days right after news of Hangang author winning the Nobel Prize in Literature was announced. On October 15, the third day, it briefly surged to 10,380 KRW during trading but then gave back the gains. It closed at 6,340 KRW the previous day.

In the past, when singer Psy gained popularity with 'Gangnam Style,' related stocks surged in the domestic stock market. Although Gangnam Style’s popularity lasted for a while, the rise of related stocks in the domestic market did not last long.

A financial investment industry official explained, "This is an example showing the potential for the domestic entertainment industry to grow," but added, "There are not many listed companies directly related to Apartment’s popularity."
