A Major Role in Discovering and Establishing Early-Career Researchers
Educational Activities on Natural Product-Based Wood Finishes
Dong-A University (President Lee Hae-woo) announced that Professor Kim Jun-hyung of the Department of Chemical Engineering received the 2024 Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering ‘Yu Young-je Education Award.’
The Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering, founded in 1984, has been the largest society in the domestic biotechnology field in terms of membership for the past 40 years. The ‘Yu Young-je Education Award’ was established with an endowment fund from Yu Young-je, a former president of the society and honorary professor at Seoul National University. The award is given based on achievements not only in research but also contributions to the society, education for elementary, middle, and high school students as well as the general public related to biotechnology, lectures, and other educational activities.
The award ceremony was held recently at the Jeju Convention Center during the ‘2024 Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering Fall Academic Conference and International Symposium.’
Professor Kim Jun-hyung has long served as a director and organizing committee chair of the Korean Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering, playing a major role in introducing and educating young researchers within the society and helping them establish their positions.
He also received high praise for translating books related to natural product-based wood finishes and conducting free lectures and educational activities targeting the general public and industry.
Previously, in 2022, Professor Kim served as the deputy director of the Dong-A University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation and was awarded the ‘Minister of Science and ICT Commendation’ for his contributions to discovering jobs in the science and engineering fields.
Professor Kim said, “The primary duties of a professor are education and research. I will devote myself even more to educational activities, taking this award as an opportunity.”
