'Connecting Past, Present, and Future Through Film'... 'Festa! Retro60: Dapsimni' Held

Special Exhibition of Korean Film Master Director Lee Man-hee and Special Talk with Daughter Actress Lee Hye-young at Dapsimni Film Media Art Center from 25th to 27th... Retro Arcade Recreates Arcade Scene for Nostalgic Journey

Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that from the 25th to the 27th, the 'Festa! Retro60: Dapsimni' will be held at the Dapsimni Film Media Art Center for three days.

This event was planned to reflect on the historical significance of the Dapsimni Comprehensive Film Studio and to create a diverse cultural communication space.

The festival features a special exhibition highlighting director Lee Man-hee, a master of 1960s Korean cinema, along with a retro screen exhibition set in the turn of the century and millennium, future film screenings, and various other programs.

In particular, Lee Man-hee’s representative works such as Holiday, Life, and The Road to Sampo will be screened, and a special talk with Lee Hye-young, the director’s daughter and actress, is scheduled. This is expected to offer precious memories to film fans.

Additionally, films capturing the sensibility of the turn of the century such as Toy Story 2, Love at the End of the Century, Victory, and We Can’t Go to Heaven but We Can Love will be shown, along with movies set in future societies like Robot Dream, Wonderland, and Ready Player One.

Director Kwon Han-seul’s One More Pumpkin, which won the grand prize and audience award at this year’s Dubai International AI Film Festival, as well as his new work The Time of Destruction, will also be screened, raising audience expectations.

Moreover, a 'Retro Arcade' recreating 1990s and 2000s game arcades will evoke nostalgia among visitors. Side events such as the computer arcade where old arcade machines can be experienced firsthand, the Dapsimni-dong photo studio, and Cine Happy Hour will further enhance the festival’s enjoyment.

Kim Kyung-wook, CEO of the Dongdaemun Cultural Foundation, said, “This festival will be more than just film screenings; it will be a cultural festival spanning eras,” adding, “We plan to connect the past, present, and future through film and offer audiences a new cultural experience.”
