‘CTC Korea Office’ to be Established in Busan Technopark… First Office Outside Other Countries to Open in Busan
On the 21st at 4:30 PM, Busan City met with Marc Fette, CEO of ‘CTC’, at the City Hall International Protocol Room to discuss specific cooperative projects for fostering the future aviation industry ecosystem in Busan.
‘CTC’ is the Airbus Composite Technology Center, a subsidiary of the global company Airbus.
This meeting was arranged to successfully promote the development of the Busan Future Aviation Cluster, attended by Mayor Park Hyung-jun, CEO Marc Fette, Jung Hyun-bo, Executive Director of Aerospace Business Division at Korean Air, and Kim Hyung-gyun, Director of Busan Technopark.
The four organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in March at the ‘CTC’ headquarters in Stade, Germany, to collaborate on research and development of next-generation transport composite materials.
The city plans to establish a future aviation industry complex (cluster) on a 1 million-pyeong site near Gimhae Airport, linked with the opening of the Gadeokdo New Airport in 2029 and the development of the ‘2nd Eco Delta Smart City’.
With the explosive increase in demand for private aircraft and the emergence of new concept aircraft such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and unmanned aerial vehicles, the global aviation market is becoming a high value-added market with fierce competition among countries to secure market leadership.
As the composite materials sector, which enables eco-friendliness, high-speed production, and lightweight properties, is becoming a core area of future mobility components, the city plans to proactively develop the future aviation cooperation complex (cluster) as a composite materials specialized cooperation complex (cluster).
Additionally, the city is promoting the establishment of the ‘Next-Generation Aircraft Airframe Parts Advanced Manufacturing Demonstration Center’ to plan and implement technology development and support projects based on global cooperation.
The site for the Next-Generation Aircraft Airframe Parts Advanced Manufacturing Demonstration Center has been secured within the Mieum Industrial Complex in Gangseo-gu, and the center’s demonstration equipment installation and R&D will actively incorporate ‘CTC’s advanced case consultations.
Furthermore, by establishing national research equipment-based infrastructure within the center, support will be provided for joint research and development (R&D) among ‘CTC’, anchor company Korean Air, and composite material specialized companies.
‘CTC’ has agreed to establish the ‘CTC Korea Office’ within Busan Technopark to promote continuous and substantial cooperative research and development (R&D) and achieve results.
This is the first case where ‘CTC’ opens an office outside Germany, where its headquarters are located, in another country to collaborate with Asian partners and domestic companies, expected to generate significant synergy in building a sustainable and strong technology-based ‘Future Aviation Cluster’.
Accordingly, ▲ Busan City will provide active administrative support to enable the ‘CTC Korea Office’ to expand various activities and research and development (R&D) foundations, and ▲ Busan Technopark will support the operation of the ‘CTC Office’ by providing environment and infrastructure, incentives, and discovering corporate cooperation projects.
During this meeting, CEO Marc Fette discussed specific plans to cooperate with Busan City, Korean Air, and Busan Technopark and promised active support for their implementation. He also urged explosive interest and participation from Busan’s government, industry, academia, and research sectors.
Topics covered included the location and operation plans of the ‘CTC Korea Office’, technology support for industrial development infrastructure, and joint research and development plans among industry, academia, and research institutions.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “I ask for much interest and cooperation so that the future aviation industry can become a future growth engine for Busan’s economy through collaboration between ‘CTC’, the composite technology subsidiary of the global company Airbus, and the regional anchor company Korean Air Tech Center.” He added, “With the opening of the ‘CTC Korea Office’, we will do our best to build a world-class ‘Busan Future Aviation Cluster’ specialized in composite technology.”
