The United Nations (UN) recently stated that it is necessary to determine whether North Korea's deployment of troops to Russia, as announced by the South Korean government and reported by the media, constitutes a violation of UN Security Council (UNSC) sanctions against North Korea.
Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said on the 21st (local time) at the UN Headquarters in New York, in response to questions about North Korea's troop deployment to Russia, "It has not been officially confirmed," but added, "The Security Council Sanctions Committee is monitoring sanctions against North Korea, and if there are any violations, they will make a decision."
Regarding the claim that the expert panel under the North Korea Sanctions Committee, which has been responsible for monitoring sanctions against North Korea, was disbanded, he explained, "The North Korea Sanctions Committee under the Security Council, which handles related issues, still remains."
Earlier, on the 18th, the National Intelligence Service announced that North Korea decided to deploy troops to support Russia, and that a force of about 1,500 personnel is training in Russia's Far East region. Russia avoided confirming the facts related to this and only stated that it "will continue to develop relations with North Korea." The international community is increasingly concerned about the military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, which is developing to the level of a blood alliance.
The UN Security Council held a meeting at the UN Headquarters in the afternoon with the situation in Ukraine as the agenda. During the meeting, the issue of North Korea's troop deployment to Russia was raised.
