Public-Private Collaboration Among Three Organizations for Health and Participation... A Step Forward for Environment, Family, and Us

Yeoju Senior-Friendly City Han River Walking Event Successfully Concluded On the 19th, Yeoju City in Gyeonggi Province held the 2024 Yeoju Senior-Friendly City Hangang Walking Event for families to enjoy autumn together, through a public-private collaboration between K-water Operations Management and the Yeoju Senior Welfare Center.

Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Chung-woo) announced on the 21st that on the 19th, in a public-private collaboration with K-water Operations Management (President Woo Dal-sik) and Yeoju Senior Welfare Center (Director Lee Seok-ja), they held the 2024 Yeoju Senior-Friendly City Hangang Walking Event for families to enjoy autumn together.

The event was organized to promote the creation of a senior-friendly city in Yeoju, provide an opportunity for all generations to communicate and enjoy together, and enhance citizens' health and family bonds. The program began with a pre-event congratulatory performance and the reading of the Senior-Friendly City Declaration, followed by a 4 km round-trip walking course, various experience booths, and a completion celebration performance, offering a diverse and enjoyable time.

In particular, the reading of the Senior-Friendly City Declaration attracted attention as a representative senior participant read the declaration aloud, pledging as a senior citizen, and all participants joined in the performance.

Additionally, to support smooth event operation, volunteer groups such as the Haesol Volunteer Group, Civil Servants' Wives Association, Marine Corps Veterans Association, and Reserve Forces Association voluntarily participated, making the walking event rich and successful.

Mayor Lee Chung-woo expressed, “Today, when we can fully enjoy autumn, despite the bad weather, many people participated for their health and involvement. I thank the K-water Operations Management Headquarters, Yeoju Senior Welfare Center, and volunteer groups who prepared for today’s event. Through this walking event, I hope it becomes a time for generations to communicate and empathize, and that seniors enjoy autumn step by step with their families and friends through active aging.”

Meanwhile, Yeoju City has been implementing a three-year action plan since 2023 and plans to focus on research projects and discovering new initiatives to receive re-certification from the WHO Global Network for Age-friendly Cities in 2025, aiming to create a uniquely Yeoju senior-friendly city.
