Mayor Kang Su-hyun: "Yangju City with 629 Years of History is Advancing as the Central City of Northern Gyeonggi"
Yangsi held the "22nd Yangju Citizens' Day Ceremony" on the 19th at the City Hall Round Plaza with about 600 citizens in attendance. Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun), with a population approaching 300,000, successfully concluded the 22nd Citizens' Day event.
According to the city on the 21st, the "22nd Yangju Citizens' Day Ceremony" was held on the 19th at the city hall's circular plaza, attended by about 600 citizens.
The Yangju Citizens' Day Ceremony has been held annually since October 19, 2003, to commemorate the day Yangju was promoted to city status, marking its 22nd anniversary this year.
The ceremony was hosted by announcer Kang Da-eun and attended by Mayor Kang Su-hyun, Yangju City Council Chairman Yoon Chang-chul, National Assembly member Jung Sung-ho, city and provincial council members, key guests, and citizens.
The ceremony began with a pre-event performance by North Korean defector singer Kim Min-kyung, followed by the reading of the Citizens' Charter, awards, commemorative speeches, and celebratory performances.
Notably, the Citizens' Charter was read by citizen representatives Lee Chae-hyun and Yang Jeong-hyun, who contributed to the efforts to attract a public medical center and an international skating rink, demonstrating the city's strong determination to secure the international skating rink following the public medical center.
Next, an awards ceremony was held to honor citizens who quietly fulfilled their duties and contributed to regional development in various fields. Sixteen individuals received the Yangju Citizens' Award in 16 categories, including law and order establishment and social welfare promotion, while a total of 48 citizens were honored with awards from the Gyeonggi Province Governor, City Council Chairman, and National Assembly members.
The event finale featured a musical drama "Good Morning Yangju" gala performance, a five-color fireworks display commemorating the 21st anniversary of city promotion, and the Yangju City Choir's performance celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of poet Park Hwa-mok, the lyricist of the Yangju Citizens' Song, followed by the singing of the Citizens' Song.
Mayor Kang Su-hyun said, "I am pleased to spend this meaningful time with the 290,000 citizens of Yangju on Citizens' Day. Yangju, boasting a long history of 629 years, is steadily growing despite various regulations and is advancing as the central city of northern Gyeonggi Province. We will strive to develop new towns, expand educational and transportation infrastructure, foster industries, and create jobs to make Yangju a city where everyone wants to live and that is full of charm."
