Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced on the 20th that it will open and officially operate the ‘Seocho Senior Lounge,’ a new concept community space remodeled on the 2nd floor of the Banpo 3-dong Senior Center, on the 21st.

The ‘Seocho Senior Lounge’ in Banpo 3-dong is the second senior center space to be remodeled following the Banpo 2-dong Senior Center. It has been reborn as a bright and modern leisure facility composed of a Smart Zone, Chat Zone, Healing Zone, and Kids Zone, breaking away from the closed image of traditional senior centers.

The Smart Zone is equipped with digital devices such as smart tables and tablet PCs; the Chat Zone offers convenience facilities like coffee machines and water purifiers; the Healing Zone includes massage chairs. Additionally, the Kids Zone is stocked with storybooks so that grandchildren can enjoy the space together, establishing it as a place for communication across all generations.

The ‘Seocho Senior Lounge’ was created based on the judgment that the existing senior center facilities needed to be transformed into open and modern community spaces. It is freely accessible to local residents, serving as a community hub where leisure, rest, and intergenerational exchange and communication take place. Currently, a total of five locations are in operation, including the Banpo 3-dong Senior Lounge, the 1st floor of Banpo 2-dong Senior Center, the 2nd floor of Banpo Welfare Center Senior Center, the 4th floor of Banpo Nutina-mu Shelter, and inside the Seocho-gu IT Education Center.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, “We plan to continue expanding the Senior Lounge,” adding, “We will keep securing community spaces so that not only seniors but all residents can enjoy a happy leisure life.”
