Chungbuk Province Builds Housing with Over 300 Million Won to Overcome Low Birthrate Crisis

A new home has been established for a family with nine siblings in Yeongdong, Chungbuk.

On the 19th, the Chungbuk Provincial Government held a completion ceremony for a new house in Danjeon-ri, Simcheon-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, where a family with nine siblings (five boys and four girls) will live. About 50 people attended the event, including Kim Young-hwan, Governor of Chungbuk, Jeong Young-cheol, Mayor of Yeongdong-gun, Shin Hyun-kwang, Chairman of Yeongdong County Council, and Jin Sang-hwa, President of Chungbuk Development Corporation, celebrating the family’s move into their new home.

Chungbuk Province announced that this house, built at a cost of about 300 million KRW to overcome the low birthrate crisis, was sponsored by various organizations and companies. In May, Chungbuk Development Corporation inspected multi-child families in need of improved living environments to participate in overcoming the low birthrate crisis this year, and selected the “family with nine siblings” in Simcheon-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk, promising them a new home.

The overall management and implementation of the housing environment improvement project for this house was undertaken by Chungbuk Development Corporation, and the house design was donated as a talent contribution by Sinseong Comprehensive Architectural Office. Additionally, Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation, Chungbuk Housing Welfare Cooperative, and others supported the construction of the house, and local villagers also helped by exchanging land for the new house site.

The father of the multi-child family who received the new house expressed his gratitude, saying, “I will raise the children well to become outstanding adults who can repay the grace they have received many times over.”

Governor Kim said, “This is a good example that can encourage the will to overcome the low birthrate crisis,” and added, “Let’s work together to create an environment that is good for raising children.”

Earlier in May, KBS’s “Donghaeng” aired an episode titled “The Family of Nine Siblings Full of Happiness.” The family of nine siblings living in a rural house in Yeongdong-gun, including their parents, a total of 11 people, lived together in a house with only two rooms. The house was old and too small, making it difficult for the family to stretch their legs and sleep comfortably.

The broadcast showed the nine siblings competing for the bathroom and sleeping in the boys’ room and girls’ room, with 5 to 6 siblings sharing one room.
