Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 18th that it conducted disability awareness improvement education for 80 childcare staff members at local daycare centers in cooperation with the Gyeonggi Disabled Rehabilitation Association on the 17th.
This education program was planned with the goal of fostering a correct understanding and improving awareness of disabilities, aiming to spread positive perceptions of people with disabilities.
The education program consisted of △ Understanding disabilities and people with disabilities △ Types of disabilities and etiquette △ Respect for the diversity of disabilities. Additionally, participants were deeply moved by a piano performance by an instructor on the autism spectrum.
One staff member who attended the education shared, “Through the training, I learned how to interact with people with disabilities in daily life, and the instructor’s piano performance was a touching experience.”
Park Eun-mi, Director of the Namyangju Childcare Support Center, stated, “We hope to create an inclusive educational environment by strengthening understanding and positive awareness of people with disabilities, and through this, disability awareness improvement will spread throughout society.”
Meanwhile, the city plans to continue fostering a culture without discrimination between people with and without disabilities through various programs such as consulting and capacity-building education for childcare staff caring for young children with disabilities.
