Passport, "Unified Opposition to Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Law"... Han Dong-hoon "The Public Will Criticize"

Handonghun Responds to Ms. Kim's Demand for Measures: "I Will Do Well"

The People Power Party, which has been internally debating over First Lady Kim Geon-hee's apology and restraint from public activities, spoke with one voice on the 18th regarding the Democratic Party of Korea's third proposal of the special investigation law on Kim Geon-hee (Kim Geon-hee Special Investigation Law), saying "the public will criticize it."

On the same day, Representative Han Dong-hoon, after visiting the campaign office of Choi Bong-ui, the candidate for Gokseong County Governor, to congratulate on the defeat in the October 16 by-elections, told reporters, "What the Democratic Party is doing is not about actually intending to do something, but repeatedly proposing possibilities and unrealistic things knowing they will be rejected."

The Democratic Party proposed the Kim Geon-hee Special Investigation Law for the third time the day before. The two previously proposed special investigation laws were discarded after a re-vote following the president's request for reconsideration (veto). The previous special investigation laws demanded investigations into eight suspicions related to the First Lady, but this time, the scope of investigation demands was expanded by adding suspicions related to Mr. Myeong Tae-gyun.

Regarding the criticism that there is no justification to block the special investigation law since the First Lady's Deutsche Motors stock manipulation suspicion was dismissed without indictment, Han retorted, "Am I not presenting various measures to resolve the public's dissatisfaction, worries, and anxieties?" At the National Assembly Supreme Council meeting the day before, he demanded three things: suspension of the First Lady's external activities, personnel reshuffle in the presidential office related to the First Lady, and cooperation in the procedure to clarify suspicions.

Regarding the Democratic Party's announcement to push for the impeachment of Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung and Seoul Central District Prosecutor Lee Chang-soo over the dismissal without indictment of the First Lady, Han criticized, "Is there any public official whom the Democratic Party does not impeach?" and "I don't know why they only talk but did not impeach when I was Minister of Justice."

In response to a question about a presidential office official reacting, "Are you starting fights right after the election? Won't it affect the private meeting with President Yoon Seok-yeol?" Han replied, "Do you think what those people say helps good politics? They are not even speaking under their own names." Regarding the schedule for the private meeting with President Yoon, he said, "I was recently informed of the date, but I will not disclose it in advance." On whether there will be attendees at the meeting, he said, "What matters is what achievements we make for the people."

When a citizen he met at the Gokseong 5-day Market shouted, "Please do something about First Lady Kim Geon-hee," Han responded, "We will do better." He also emphasized regarding the recent by-elections, "I think this is almost the first time for a conservative party that I showed the sincerity of the People Power Party by campaigning in Gokseong," adding, "We will do better in Gokseong and Honam. To show this intention, I came to Gokseong first after the election."

Floor Leader Chu Kyung-ho also criticized the 'Kim Geon-hee Special Investigation Law' at the National Assembly audit countermeasure meeting on the same day, calling it "an unconstitutional evil law aimed at shielding Representative Lee Jae-myung and creating a presidential impeachment crisis." He pointed out that the ruling party's right to recommend the special investigator is excluded, and the opposition party selects the investigator, targeting an individual rather than a charge, which is unfair. Regarding the special investigation law, Floor Leader Chu said, "They say the appointment of the special investigator is politically neutral and fair, but it is a black comedy," and questioned, "Is it neutral and fair to exclude the ruling party's right to recommend and select the special investigator according to the Democratic Party's taste?"
