Application of 'Electric Arc Furnace-Basic Oxygen Furnace Hybrid Process Technology'
20% Reduction in Carbon Emissions Compared to Existing Products
Hyundai Steel participated in the global automotive body conference and showcased its carbon-reducing automotive steel technology utilizing the electric furnace-blast furnace hybrid process technology.
Hyundai Steel announced on the 18th that it attended the global body conference ECB held in Germany from the 15th to the 17th. Starting with CBP, the world's largest automotive body materials and components conference in June, Hyundai Steel has been participating in global body conferences such as the US IABC.
These events gather experts from global automakers, parts manufacturers, and steel companies to share research technologies and development trends related to automotive body materials and components, introduce new technologies in the global automotive industry, and verify each company's technological competitiveness.

Hyundai Steel presented its carbon-reducing steel product technology based on the electric furnace-blast furnace hybrid process technology and exhibited actual manufactured parts to demonstrate its product technology aligned with the global carbon neutrality transition.
The 'electric furnace-blast furnace hybrid process technology' developed by Hyundai Steel to achieve carbon neutrality is a process technology that mixes molten iron produced separately in the blast furnace and electric furnace in a converter, reducing carbon emissions by about 20% compared to conventional blast furnace products.
Since April last year, Hyundai Steel has verified the same quality level as blast furnace-produced products through the development and demonstration testing of various carbon-reducing automotive steel sheets, confirming that it can produce all grades of automotive steel sheets previously produced in the blast furnace.
A company official stated, "Through participation and promotional activities at major global body conferences, we will promote Hyundai Steel's differentiated automotive steel technology competitiveness, such as carbon-reducing steel and ultra-high strength steel, and expand sales of products for the global automotive market."
