November 20 Release 'Hidden Face' Raises Expectations
VC with Unique Insight 'Soleil Partners' Main Investor
Q3 Earnings Netflix Surges in After-Hours Trading... Video Content Boom
NEW surged more than 10% in the early trading session. This appears to be influenced by expectations for the upcoming film 'Hidden Face' and news that Netflix, the global leader in online video streaming services (OTT), surged in after-hours trading.
As of 9:27 a.m. on the 18th, NEW was trading at 2,770 KRW, up 10.80% (270 KRW) from the previous trading day. It hit a high of 2,970 KRW (18.80%) shortly after the market opened and is currently undergoing a correction. This is the highest price since it reached 3,050 KRW on the 4th.
The film 'Hidden Face,' for which NEW is handling investment and distribution, is scheduled to be released on November 20. It is a movie co-invested mainly by domestic venture capital (VC) Solaire Partners. The cast includes Song Seung-heon, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Park Ji-hyun. The break-even point (BEP) for investors is expected to be 1.4 million admissions. In addition to investment, NEW Group has mobilized its capabilities across all areas including production, distribution, and sales. Its subsidiaries Studio&New and Contents Panda are responsible for production, overseas sales, and distribution of ancillary rights. NEW, which has extensive experience in film investment and distribution, is creating synergy effects in content planning, production, and distribution through Studio&New and Contents Panda.
The participation of Solaire Partners as the main investment partner is also a hot topic in the industry. Solaire Partners is famous for its exceptional sense that has led to 'home runs' with every film project it has touched in the film industry. Last year and this year, it invested in the blockbuster films 'Spring in Seoul' and 'Pamyoh,' hitting big successes, and films like 'Pilot' and 'Sleep' surpassed the BEP as main investments. An industry insider said, "There seems to be special interest because Solaire Partners, known for its exceptional foresight, co-invested as a main partner."
Meanwhile, Netflix’s better-than-expected earnings report, which saw its stock rise nearly 5% in after-hours trading, appears to be bringing a positive breeze to the video content industry. Netflix posted Q3 revenue of $9.825 billion and earnings per share (EPS) of $5.40, both exceeding Wall Street’s average estimates. In relation to this, not only NEW but also Studio Dragon (1.90%), Wysiwyg Studios (3.76%), and Samhwa Networks (3.82%) are also showing slight gains.
