Vietnam War Memorial Tower Reinforcement Ceremony Also Held
The Vietnam War Veterans Association Dongducheon Branch held a ceremony on the 17th at the parking lot of Soyosan Freedom Defense Peace Museum, where the Vietnam War Memorial Tower is located, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of participation in the Vietnam War and the reinforcement construction of the Vietnam War Memorial Tower. On the 17th, the Dongducheon City Branch of the Vietnam War Veterans Association held a ceremony at the parking lot of Soyosan Freedom Protection Peace Museum, where the Vietnam War Memorial Tower is located, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam War participation and the reinforcement construction of the Vietnam War Memorial Tower.
About 200 people attended the event, including Mayor Park Hyeong-deok, City Council Chairman Kim Seung-ho, provincial council members, city council members, officials from the Northern Gyeonggi Veterans Affairs Office, branch heads of the Vietnam War Veterans Association in the Northern Gyeonggi region, heads of veterans organizations, and members of the Vietnam War Veterans Association.
The event began with the national ceremony and the singing of the national anthem, followed by a moment of silence for the patriotic martyrs and fallen soldiers of the Vietnam War, presentation of appreciation plaques, commendations for veterans, commemorative speeches, congratulatory speeches, and a reading of the prayer of the Vietnam War dispatch soldiers.
Branch President Jeong Sun-gil said, "I am proud of the veterans who sacrificed themselves in a distant foreign land 60 years ago to protect the freedom and peace of Vietnam and worked tirelessly for the development of the Republic of Korea. Through this event, I would like to thank the Northern Gyeonggi Veterans Affairs Office for supporting the reinforcement construction of the memorial tower and Mayor of Dongducheon for always striving to honor the veterans."
Mayor Park Hyeong-deok stated, "The event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam War participation and the completion of the memorial tower reinforcement construction is very meaningful. The Vietnam War participation was Korea fulfilling its international obligations and expressing its will to maintain world peace. I express my respect for the sacrifice and dedication of everyone here. Going forward, Dongducheon City will strive to ensure that the Vietnam War heroes are respected and can spend their remaining years comfortably."
