Completely Established as the Third Annual Community-wide Sports Event
A Place for Harmony Between Disabled and Non-disabled Meeting the Demand for Disabled Sports
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that the "Our Neighborhood Curling Tournament" was successfully held at Geumnarae Culture and Sports Center from 11 a.m. on the 17th.
The "Our Neighborhood Curling Tournament" was held to meet the demand for sports activities for people with disabilities and to create a space for harmony between people with and without disabilities.
The event was organized by Geumcheon Disabled Welfare Center (Director Park Eun-jung), with participation from about 100 athletes and 700 people with disabilities and their families from 16 institutions engaged in disability welfare work.
This tournament was conducted in a new style called "New Age Curling," which is played on the ground rather than on the usual ice rink. "New Age Curling" allows anyone to easily participate using their hands or various assistive devices.
In addition, various sports experience zones such as table tennis for the visually impaired (Showdown), Hangung, and T-ball were operated, providing residents with new opportunities to enjoy activities together with people with and without disabilities.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "The Our Neighborhood Curling Tournament was a meaningful event where people with and without disabilities came together to communicate and achieve harmony," adding, "We will continue to create a happy Geumcheon-gu for all residents through various sports activities and programs."
