9.9km Section Connecting Cheonan and Cheongju to Be Constructed
Cheonan City in Chungnam announced on the 17th that it has established a new bicycle path extending to Cheongju in Chungbuk.
The city is currently promoting the "Cheonan-style 300-ri Bicycle Perimeter Path" project, which aims to build a bicycle route connecting the Seoul metropolitan area and the Chungcheong region.
Among these, a 9.9km section of the Aunae Bicycle Path, connecting Yeonchun-ri in Buk-myeon, Dongnam-gu to Balsan-ri in Susin-myeon, has been completed, allowing cyclists to ride all the way to Oksan-myeon in Heungdeok-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk.
The Aunae Bicycle Path has been selected by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as a new route for the "2023 National Cross-country Bicycle Path" and is expected to be named "Byeongcheoncheon Oigill," reflecting the characteristics of the local area. However, due to the Byeongcheoncheon local river maintenance project, some sections will require detours via temporary routes until the second half of next year.
The Cheonan-style 300-ri Bicycle Perimeter Path project, which began in 2022, is scheduled for completion next year.
A city official stated, "By connecting the Seoul metropolitan area and the Chungcheong region, we aim to become a bicycle-friendly city with a comprehensive cycling transportation network."
