Borderline Intelligence and Learning Difficulties Diagnosis System
Digital Textbook Questions Require "Careful Introduction"
Jeong Geun-sik, who was elected as the new Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent, stated on the morning of the 17th that his "first approval" agenda would be to "draft a plan for the Learning Diagnosis and Healing Center."
Superintendent Jeong arrived at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education building for the first time around 11 a.m. that day. When asked by reporters about his first approval agenda, he said, "There are many urgent issues, but due to widespread concerns about basic academic skills, I will first address matters related to that."
The Learning Diagnosis and Healing Center (tentative name) is a policy that Superintendent Jeong has emphasized since his candidacy, designed as a system to diagnose and heal problems such as learning difficulties or borderline intelligence.
Regarding questions about the AI digital textbooks scheduled to be introduced next year, he expressed the position that "a cautious introduction is necessary." Superintendent Jeong said, "It is not too late to confirm the actual educational effectiveness before introducing them," and added, "I will soon conduct a careful review on this matter."
In response to criticism about his lack of experience, he said, "I actually do not lack experience. However, over the past 40 days, I have met many parents and students, visited the field, and worked to solve problems," adding, "I will make sure to visit the field about once a week to listen to teachers, interact with students, and alleviate parents' concerns."
He also emphasized, "It seems that parents from the so-called 'Gangnam 3 Districts' had concerns about me in this election," and added, "I will definitely ease those concerns."
The voter turnout for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education by-election held the previous day was only 23.5%. Regarding this, Superintendent Jeong said, "Some may criticize that the turnout is low and that there is little interest in Seoul education, but it is true that many people related to the education field participated enthusiastically," and added, "Nevertheless, we need to think carefully about the low turnout and increase interest in Seoul education through extensive communication."
